Entrepreneurship development programme at DScE

Dhaka School of Economics is providing quality education in the field of economics as a constituent institute of the University of Dhaka. It provides degrees such as Bachelor of Entrepreneurial Economics (4-year), Post-graduate diploma in Enterprise Development (9-month) and Master of Economics (Enterprise development 18-month) under the leadership of eminent economist Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad and all degrees are awarded by the University of Dhaka. Since the establishment of the programmes several qualified faculties have been working in the institute. Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, MPhil in Financial Economics and PhD in Macroeconomics, did a post-doctoral in Entrepreneurial management from Naresuan University, Thailand. Professor Ali got training in AIT extension on outcome-based education. Prof Ali during the establishment of the programmes got various training from the PKSF. 

Muhammad Mahboob Ali wrote 11 research-based books and he also wrote novels, lyrics, poems, short stories and books for children. He has written more than 150 research-based in peer-reviewed journals including SCOPUS-indexed and ABDC-indexed journals. He is associated with total 27 of journals as a member of the editorial board out of which 4 is SCOPUS indexed journals.

Since the establishment of the programme several important seminars-conferences, symposiums, elevator pitch, and start-up has been arranged by the entrepreneurial economists’ club, Dhaka School of Economics. Some important programmes are mentioned below:

 A seminar on “Project Planning, Analysis and Management “was organized by the Entrepreneurial Economists Club, Dhaka School of Economics on 27 May, 2017. On May 23, 2017 a total of nineteen students from the Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Development programme of Dhaka School of Economics visited the Social Upliftment Society (SUS), Savar, a partner organization of Pally Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, an eminent economist of the country delivered a special talk on the Emergence of Bangladesh on 30 April 2017 organized by the Entrepreneurial Economists Club, Dhaka School of Economics. Entrepreneurial Economists Club, Dhaka School of Economics organized a seminar on “USA policy regime change, BREXIT and the Impact on Bangladesh’s Economy” on 14th February 2017. The keynote paper was presented by Dr Haider A Khan, a distinguished professor of the University of Denver, USA and the chief guest was National Professor DrAnisuzzaman. 

 A seminar on “ Sustainability of Firm Managers in Economic Preferences” organized by the Entrepreneurial Economists club was held on 10 January, 2017 where the Keynote paper was presented by Prof Dr Afzal Rahim, a distinguished professor of Management, Western Kentucky University, USA. Dhaka School of Economics arranged a seminar on “Building Quality in Higher education “held on 1st January, 2017 where Prof M. Habib Rahman, former President and CEO of Emirates College for Management and Information technology in Dubai, UAE was keynote speaker while Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali was the discussant. Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman, Governing Council, DScE was the chief guest. 

Dhaka School of Economics (DScE ) organized the seminar titled “Banking and Insurance Procedures and Hindrance for Entrepreneurial Economics Growth” in its seminar room on October 3, 2019. Mr Helal Ahmed Chowdhury Supernumerary Professor, BIBM was the Chief Guest. DScE organized a seminar, titled 'To Build Entrepreneurial Spirit and Employability Skill' and the inaugural ceremony of 'Model of Economic Incubator' August 13, 2018. The main paper was presented by Dr Yashoda Krishna Durge. On 9th January, 2018 at the Conference on Growth with Equity. DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, PhD was the chief guest at the concluding session. DScE arranged a case study competition on entrepreneurial economics at the national level on July 11, 2018. Dhaka School of Economics (DScE ), a constituent institution of the University of Dhaka and PKSF jointly organized the daylong conference, where DScE students presented 42 research papers from home and abroad. The closing ceremony of the 1st Case Competition and Workshop on Entrepreneurial Economics Employability was held at Dhaka School of Economics (DScE ) on July 14, 2018. At the closing ceremony, eminent economist Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was the chief guest. On 5th January, 2022 Dissertation on the Entrepreneurial Economics programme was held where two students Faijul Siddiki and Afia Akter presented a synopsis where Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was present. Dr Abdullah Abu Sayed Khan, Professor, Khulna University, who did post-doctorate under Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali as UGC fellow at DScE presented his final presentation where Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Chairman, Governing Council, DScE was present as chief guest. A seminar titled “Banking and Insurance Procedures and Hindrance for Entrepreneurial Economics Growth” at its seminar room held on October 3, 2021 where the main discussant was Dr Yashoda Krishna Durge - GNVS Institute of Management, India and Dr Sardana Khan – CQ University, Australia. 

Field Trip under the programme: The Entrepreneurship Economics Programme of DScE always tries to make a bridge between theoretical and practical knowledge. To fill the gap of practical knowledge, the programme always arranges field trips. The students of Master of Economics (Entrepreneurship Economics, Session: 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22), Post Graduate Diploma in Enterprise Development (Session: 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22) have visited industrial areas; ENRICH Programme of PKSF and different projects. The visited areas are mentioned: VISIT to ENRICH Programme of PKSF in Manikganj on 21st June, 2019; Bhairab to visit the shoe cluster on 28th December, 2019; Visit to Tongi-Gazipur Pail Industry Limited on 8th February, 2020; Mawa to visit the PADMA Bridge on 10th December, 2021; Visit to Tongi BSCIC Industrial Area, on 11th June, 2022. 

The Entrepreneurship Economics Programme of DScE organises seminars, conferences and webinars to augment the knowledge base of the students. The seminars have been arranged on contemporary issues related to entrepreneurship and the current scenario of the economy. The programme provides opinions, suggestions and policy recommendations on the national budget for the well-being of the economy. Webinars/Seminars and conferences organized by Entrepreneurship Economics Programme are mentioned below: Celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 17th March, 2019 . On 17 March, 2021 a book publication ceremony and art completion of Children was organized where the Publication ceremony of the book on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman titled “Shotabarshya Bangabandhu” Chief guest was Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad,, Chairman, GC, DScE 2020 Chief Guest of both the Programmes were Prof Dr Mijanur Rahman, the then Vice-Chancellor of Jagannath University; celebrated the Victory day on 16th December, 2021. Mr M Hamid, a Bangladeshi dramatist and theatre personality was the chief guest and Prof Ali was the session chair. Observed the National Mourning Day on 15th August, 2020 and also on 15th August, 2021. Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir was the chief guest. Arranged the 2nd International Conference on “Entrepreneurship and Economic Development” from 4th to 5th October, 2019. Eminent Economist Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was the chief guest. e. Arranged 3rd International Conference on, “Entrepreneurship Development and International Trade with BIMSTEC” from 15th to 16th January, 2022. Dr Azreen Karim. Research Fellow, BIDS was the keynote presenter, jointly concept paper was given by Sara Tasneem and Rehana Parvin of DScE and Professor Dr Mohammed Farashuddin. Chief Adviser, East West University. Founder Vice Chancellor, East West University and Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank was the chief guest while the session chair was Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali. Webinar on, Financial Inclusion and different dimensions on the Bangladesh Economy on 9th April, 2022. the Chief Guest was Anis A. Khan, Session Chair was Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali. Webinar on Business Analytics on 30th March, 2020 and foreign guests were involved. Dr Silky Vigg Kushwah, Associate Professor, NDIM, India was the chief guest. Webinar on Applied Econometrics and Publications on Scopus and ABCD Indexed Journals on 30th October, 2021. Prof Dr Sujata Khandai. Dy. Dean (Academics)/ Director, Amity University, Noida, India was the chief guest while Prof Dr Dipti Ranjan Mohapatra •, Amity University, Noida, India was the keynote paper presenter. On 12 December, 2021 received an award in recognition of contribution to creating new entrepreneurs in the country by The Global Nation was received by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, DScE . He also earlier received an award from for outstanding educationalist of foreign origin Entreprnrueship-2019 by Global Entrepreneurship Grid (GEG) India.

Webinar on Digital Transformation for leadership and entrepreneurship; Chief Guest: Prof Dr Mahesh Gandhi, India; Keynote Speaker: Dr Kunal Sil, India. Special Guest was KSM Mostafizur Rahman, MD, One Pharma; Webinar entitled, "Basics on ARDL and Data Envelop system with software" on 14th June, 2022. Chief Guest: Dr Moazzem Hossain, Adjunct Associate Prof Griffith University, Australia and Prof Dr Zia Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Social Science was the chief guest. Webinar on, National Budget 2022-23; Chief Guest: Prof Dr Anisul M Islam, University of Houston Downtown, USA while the keynote paper was presented by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and the Special Guest was Dr Nadia Binte Amin, President, WEND. Special Discussion on the National Mourning Day (of the Father of the Nation- Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman )on 17th August, 2021 through a webinar. Chief Guest: Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, Director, DScE . Special guests: Dr Mahesh Gandhi, President, Council of International universities, Germany and Professor Darryl R. J. Macer, President, American University of Sovereign Nations, Scottsdale, Arizona, USA and Session chair was Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Programme. 

"International symposium on entrepreneurship" Jointly organized by Dhaka School of Economics and GNVS Institute of Management, Mumbai on 13th August, 2021. Prof Dr R K Saily, Director of GNVS Institute was the session chair. On behalf of Bangladesh, Mrs Sara Tasneem and Mrs. Rehana Parvin was attended the programme as the guest speaker and Prof Ali was the moderator of the programme. International Symposium on, “Researched Methodology and Econometrics Model” on 3rd September, 2021. Distinguished Panellist: Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, Coordinator, Entrepreneurship Programme; Dr Anusree Paul, Associate Prof BML Munjal University; Prof Dr Anisul M. Islam, University of Houston Downtown, USA. . A Public lecture on, “Language Movement and Emergence of Bangladesh” was addressed by Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad on 21 February, 2022 which was organized by Entrepreneurial Economist Club. Mrs. Sara Tasneem was given a keynote paper at a Seminar on, “Digital Expansion and Entrepreneurial Financial Venture” on 16th April, 2022 where Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali was Session Chair. On 13th March, 2022 webinar “4th Industrial Revaluation and impact on Bangladesh Economy” Keynote Paper was Presented by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, while the chief guest was Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad. A seminar on “Need for Entrepreneurial Education from undergraduate to Masters Level and role of Dhaka School of Economics and Vision of honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh” was held through webinar 5th June, 2022, where Prof Haider A. Khan of USA was the Chief Guest and Special guest was Prof Dr Parul Khanna, India. While Keynote Paper was presented by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and Sara Tasneem and Rehana Parvin, Assistant Prof were discussants. A book on Bangabandhu’s entrepreneurial Politics was written by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and published by Mizan publishers. Another book on Bangabandhu was published by the Entrepreneurial Economists club and Bangabandhu and Independence of Bangladesh was held on 26th March at 10 am and unfolded book cover on "Shotobarshya Bangabandhu". 

On 22 May, 2022 an international conference on, “Our Pride, Our Padma Bridge and an assessment of Socio-Economic Benefits” was organized by the Entrepreneurial Economists Club where more than 80 participants were present from home and abroad by hybrid mode. Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali, DScE presented a keynote paper and Prof Abdul Mannan, Former UGC Chairman was the chief guest. The Final Viva voce of the Dissertation submission of the Entrepreneurial Economics programme was held on 27th June, 2022. 

On 7th March, 2022 a virtual Workshop    Historic speech was given by Father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Jointly addressed by: Rehana Parvin and Sara Tasneem, Assistant Professor, DScE and Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali was session chair while Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Quazi Sazzad Ali Zahir (born April 11, 1951) is a veteran of the Bangladesh Liberation War was the chief guest and Shamim Ahmad, the lecturer was the distinguished discussant. On 16th March, 2022 a seminar on Accounting versus Economics in Entrepreneurship Development was held and Speaker was Rehana Parvin, Assistant Professor, DScE and Chief Guest was Professor Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Treasurer, University of Dhaka. On26th March, 2022     Webinar Independence day where     Joint Speakers were Sara Tasneem, Asst. Professor, and Shamim Ahmad (adjunct), DScE while Chief Guest was Dr Mizanur Rahman, professor of the Department of Marketing of Dhaka University. On 21st April, 2022in the Webinar on Financial Inclusion and different dimensions of the Bangladesh Economy    Chief Guest was Syed Mahbubur Rahman appointed as Managing Director & CEO of Mutual Trust Bank Limited (MTB).      16th April, 2022    webinar Digital Expansion and Entrepreneurial Financial Venture Sara Tasneem was given the keynote paper. On26 April, 2022 International Conference on the sustainable and inclusive global economy: The path to the next normal; organized by Kristu Jayanti College (Autonomous), Bengaluru, Dept. Of Economics Keynote paper was presented by Rehana Parvin, Assistant professor, DScE. On 27 April, 2022 in the Seminar on “Political Economy and Behavioural Economic phenomena “at Rangsit University, Thailand Keynote paper presenter was Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and Session Chair was Asst. Prof Dr Kritsada Sriphaew (Kong), Dean, Rangsit University. On 22 May, 2022 International conference-hybrid mode Our Pride, Our Padma Bridge and an assessment of Socio-Economic Benefits Keynote paper presenter was Professor Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali and Prof Abdul Mannan, Former UGC Chairman was the chief guest. 

As a part of the course curricula on 11th June, 2022 field trip visit to Tongi BSCIC Industrial Area with Masters students of the Entrepreneurship Programme and PGDED. On 9th July, 2022 International Webinar Economic progress of Bangladesh despite the turbulent situation of the globe     Keynote Paper presenter was Dr Dipti Ranjan Mohapatra, Amity University, Uttar Pradesh, India And Chief Guest Dr Abul Mansur Ahmed. (Professor & Chairman), Dept of Mass Communication & Journalism. Education; University of Dhaka. On16th July, 2022    International Webinar Russia and Ukraine war and impact on Bangladesh’s Economy Keynote Paper presenter was Dr Anwara Begum, Senior Research Fellow, BIDS and also by Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury (Parvez). Bangladesh Chamber of Industries while Prof Ali was the Session Chair. On 23 July, 2022    Games Indoor and Outdoor games The sports editor of news24 television Dilu Khondkar, former national football team player Abdul Gaffar, former cricketer of national cricket team Sanowar Hossain joined the function as guest of honour. And Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad was chief guest. On    5th August, 2022 a Cultural Programme for Masters Students of Entrepreneurship Chief Guest: AK Abdul Momen, Minister of Foreign Affairs, GOB and session chair was Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali. On 22 August, 2022a Special Talk “Tragic Darkness: 15th August, 1975 and Shock of Dhaka Grande attack, 21st August, 2004” entitled where Speaker was Prof Abdul Mannan, Former, Chairman, UGC and the session Chair was Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali. On 14 September, 2022    Book Publication Ceremony on Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad's Practicum education for Masters students Chief Guest: Dr Hasan Mahmud, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, GOB while anchoring of the programme was done by Prof Dr Muhammad Mahboob Ali. Training workshop on "Business Analytics and Business Canvas for Entrepreneurs aftermath COVID-19 and war between Russia and Ukraine was held on 1st October, 2022. 

The entrepreneurial Economics Programme of Dhaka School of Economics focuses on providing outcome-based education. Only one thing is needed which is an economic incubator and we hope that those who are rich will come to help establish an economic incubator in the Dhaka School of Economics. Our motto is to build entrepreneurs 100 per annum. Our modus operandi of education is to serve the nation with true love. We appeal to the govt to make DScE a specialized Economic University.
