The country's first Dhaka Elevated Expressway is gradually becoming visible every day as the construction work is going on in full swing to complete the project in time.
Project stakeholders said that with the launching of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, the connectivity between the north and south of the capital city will be easier, traffic capacity will increase, travel time will be reduced and travel on this route will be comfortable.
Additional Secretary (Development) of the Bridges Department, Anwar Hossain told media that "The construction work of Dhaka Elevated Expressway is going on uninterruptedly. The activities of the responsible contractors are being closely monitored to complete the work of the project within the stipulated time".
The project has been divided into three segments to facilitate construction. Segment-1 covered Airport-Banani-Railway Station. Trench-2 is Banani Railway Station to Magbazar. Trench-3 is up to Kutubkhali from Magbazar via Chittagong Road.
The construction work of the first phase has been completed with 1,340 piles out of 1,500 piles, 324 pile caps out of 350 pile caps, 239 columns of 350 columns, and 128 out of 350 crossbeams. Out of 3,154 girders, 224 have been completed with an overall progress of 59.2 percent till January this year.
According to the project, in the first phase, the expressway will start from the airport to Banani. The length of this route is 7.45 km. Setting up pile cap is also complete. Now the eye girder is being placed over the pile cap. Then the slab will sit on top of the eye girder. Vehicles will move fast on them.
