Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Friday said that she is waiting for the opinion of experts regarding how safe it is now to reopen the secondary and higher secondary educational institutions.
She also said that the educational institutions will be opened with the advice of experts if the infection rate of coronavirus in the country drops further and there is no bigger risk. The universities will reopen in mid-October.
She made the statement while speaking to reporters after attending a function at the Open University in Gazipur on Friday morning.
The education minister said that the university would reopen in mid-October after the students have been vaccinated. Besides, a meeting of the National Technical Advisory Committee has been convened next week. A decision will be taken on whether the schools can be reopened after getting their views.
The minister said, “It is scientifically said that educational institutions can be reopened if the infection rate drops below 5 percent. But such a situation has not come up in Bangladesh yet. The decision will be announced after a meeting of the national committee including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, University Grants Commission and Teachers Association.”
She attended a documentary programme on Bangabandhu's biography at Bangladesh Open University in Gazipur on Friday morning. Earlier, she planted tree saplings at Sheikh Russel square on the campus.
