ECNEC okays projects worth Tk 4,166cr

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) approved 10 development projects worth Tk 4,166.61 crore.

The approval came from the 27th meeting of the ECNEC held on Tuesday with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The ECNEC Chairperson presided over the meeting virtually from her official Gonobhaban residence. Ministers, state ministers and Planning Commission members joined the meeting from the NEC conference room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Briefing reporters after the Ecnec meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said the Ecnec approved a total of 10 projects on Tuesday involving an overall estimated cost of 4,166.61 crore including seven new and three revised.

“Of the total cost of the projects, Tk 4,125.82 crore will come from the government of Bangladesh, Tk 40.79 crore from the organization’s own fund,” he added.

Among the new projects, the Road Transport and Highways Department's “Noakhali Roads Department's Damaged Kabirhat-Chamir Munshirhat-Sonaimuri Road (Z-1410) and Senbagh-Begumganj Gasfield-Sonaimuri Road (Z-1446) development” projects have been approved at a cost of Tk 371.16 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2024.

The project of the local government department “Development of safe water supply and sanitation system in rural areas of Gopalganj district” is Tk 261.34 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2023.

The Local Government Department's project “Acquisition of land for Gazipur City Corporation and construction of bus-truck terminals in different areas” is worth Tk 782.25 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2022.

A project of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change approved titled “Innovation of high quality agar resin storage technology in whole trees” at a cost of Tk 67.92 crore. The project will be implemented from January 2021 to December 2025.

The Local Government Department's project titled “Gazipur District Rural Infrastructure Development” has been approved at a cost of Tk 685 crore. It will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2025.

The Local Government Department's project titled “Important Rural Infrastructure Development Project: District Tangail” has been approved at a cost of Tk 865 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to June 2025.

The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources’s project titled “Construction of gas distribution pipeline network in Rangpur, Nilphamari, Pirganj city and adjoining areas” has been approved at a cost of Tk 258.11 crore. The project will be implemented from July 2021 to December 2023.

Among the revised projects, the first amendment of the “Support to Joydevpur-Devgram-Bhulta-Madanpur Road (Dhaka Bypass) PPP” project has been approved that was implemented by the Department of Road Transport and Highways.

 The original cost of the project was Tk 236.50 crore. The cost of the project has been increased by Tk 438.24 crore to Tk 674.74. The project started in March 2016. It was supposed to end in June 2020. Now the time has been extended till June 2024.

The “Development (First Phase) of Bangladesh University of Professionals” project of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education has been approved by the first amendment. 

The main cost of the project is Tk 805.89 crore. The cost of the project increased by Tk90.63 to Tk 896.52 crore. The project started in July 2018. It was supposed to end in June 2021. Now its term has been extended till December 2023.

The second amendment to the “Development of Bangladesh University of Professionals” project of the Department of Secondary and Higher Education has been approved. 

The original cost of the project was Tk 256.88 crore.

The cost of the project in the second amendment has been increased by Tk 386.32 crore to Tk 648.44 crore. The project started in July 2015. It was supposed to end in December 2016. Now it has been extended till December 2023.
