Eating out in Shillong city is a common affair for the visitor. In every morning and evening, Shillong centre point turns into a mini floating food zone. The food zone has a number of restaurants which offer Puri, Porotha, Dal-Shobji, egg, tea and many others munchies in reasonable price.

Usually taking the breakfast at these restaurants visitors start their journey by the tourist bus or car to see the scenic view of Shillong from different tourist spots. In the evening people come back to these mini restaurants to take some light food.

The food zone usually opens for three to four hours in the morning and four to five hours in the evening. The restaurant owner told this writer that they earn three thousand to five thousand Indian takas in every day. Mostly the earning depends on the presence of Tourists.

Beside the restaurants, many other vendors of were seen selling different fruits, drinking water and cigarettes.
