E-learning platform has added a new dimension to journalism training in the country, said Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud.

He made this assertion while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of PIB e-learning platform ‘pibelearning.gov.bd’ and certification of past courses at Press Institute of Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

The Minister said that the media has developed extensively in the last one decade in the country and the training has not been expanded accordingly. Online journalism training is therefore extremely convenient and important for professionals engaged in professional work and senior journalists. Its importance has already become clear in the application of five thousand journalists for the e-learning course.

Dr Hasan Mahmud, mentioning the introduction and expansion of the online system in the country, said that online education in the country has been able to continue even in the midst of the Covid-19 epidemic as a result of the thoughtful implementation of Digital Bangladesh by Sajeeb Wazed, her information and communication technology adviser under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Information Minister himself said that he had taken classes and examinations as a part-time teacher of Dhaka University at that time and also took classes from abroad.

Calling on the journalists to play a role in shaping the country and society, the Minister said that the role played by Shykh Seraj of Channel I in shaping the society and the country through development journalism deserves praise. Hassan Mahmud said that the hard work, even the investigative reports made throughout the year often open the third eye of the society and the state. In reality, journalists have to overcome many obstacles, and that should be in training, he said.

PIB Director General Zafar Wazed presided over the function while Subhash Chandra Badal, Managing Director of Journalist Welfare Trust and Afrazur Rahman, Director of PIB spoke on the occasion. At that time, certificates were handed over to 100 people who participated in the e-learning journalism training.
