‘PIB working to enhance journalists’ professional skills’

Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) Director General Zafar Wazed said the PIB is working to enhance the professional skills of journalists in the country.

He made the remarking while inaugurating a three-day investigative reporting training workshop organized by PIB at Jashore Circuit House on Tuesday. 

Zafar said, among the SAARC countries, journalists are not trained at government expense except in Bangladesh. The present government is working for the welfare of journalists. In the last financial year, journalists have been given financial assistance of Tk 3.5 crore.

 ‘The failure of the journalists was not to investigate the Sagar-Rooney murder. Journalists have relied on the police. Many journalists have tried to say influential behind the scenes. It must be influential. Looking at history, it has been seen that journalism has not stopped in the face of pressure from influential people,’ he added 

Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan, said there was no alternative to investigative journalism. Investigative journalism plays an important role in public welfare. The fact that there is investigative journalism gives rise to various inconsistencies. Action was also taken on many issues on the basis of media reports. The media is the fourth pillar of the state. The power of journalism works for the welfare of the people. The media plays an important role in shaping public opinion. The media has worked to form public opinion against Kovid-19. Journalists did not sit at home. Let the role of journalists in public welfare remain intact. 

Press Club Jashore President Zahid Hasan Tukun, PIB Workshop Coordinator Jilhaj Uddin Nipun, General Secretary of Jashore Journalists Union Milon Rahman, President of Jashore Journalists Union Sajeed Rahman were present.

A total 35 journalists working in different media participated in the workshop.
