Stocks have witnessed a falling trend in last week and the market-cap (capitalization) of the Dhaka Stock Exchange has been reduced by Tk 2,011.46 crore in the last week.

The market-cap of the DSE stood at Tk 580,112.81 crore against Tk 582,124.27 crore a week before.

Market analysts said the DSE closed the week lower as most of the big sectors witnessed price correction while some investors took caution mood and took ‘Wait and See’ strategy.

They said investors' participation declined 29 percent, leaving a negative impact on the prime index and the turnover as well in the last week.

Investors booked profit from large-cap sectors, including travel and leisure, services and real estate and ceramic sectors, they said adding that, some investors were busy to show their buying spree especially for mutual fund sector.

Prof Abu Ahmed, a capital market analyst, told the Bangladesh Post, “Once upon a time, there were Tk 300 crore-Tk 400 crore traded in the capital market. If the index fell, the price of shares would also fall. That situation is no more.”

Investors are more interested in the index, he said adding that, if the index goes down at the end of the day, the investors thought the capital market is getting worse.

“This idea is not correct. We have to get out of this situation. The transaction is still in a good position,” he mentioned.

As a result, it is unreasonable to call the overall capital market bad due to lack of indicators and transactions, he further said.

However, DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), decreased by 99.70 points or 1.36 percent to close at 7,243.27.

However, the DSE30 Index, comprising blue chips, declined by 48.25 points to close at 2,919.14 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) went down 28.35 points to close at 1567.44.

Meanwhile, the daily average turnover of DSE also decreased by 28.78 percent to Tk 18.12 billion, compared the previous week.

Of 382 issues traded, 124 advanced, 231 declined and 23 remained unchanged during the week.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, the Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) also saw a rapid fall with its selective category index (CSCX) losing 196.24 points in the last week to close at 12,682.97 points.

The All-Share Price Index (CASPI) of the CSE was lower by 324.58 points to close at 21,116.72 points.

Of the 342 issues traded, 114 advanced, 216 declined and 12 remained unchanged on the CSE floor.

The port city's bourse traded 9.87 crore shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Tk 325 crore during the last week.
