Drug trader killed in 'Cox's Bazar crossfire'

A suspected drug trader was killed in an encounter with police at Lengurbil Mathchara in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday midnight.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, 36, son of Makbul Ahmed of Pallanpara in Teknaf Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Teknaf Model Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das said acting on a tip off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 11:45 pm for recovering Yaba.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on police, forcing them to fire back in self-defense. Malek was caught in the line of cross-fire while his associates managed to flee.

Three policemen were injured in the gunfight.

Police also recovered two LGs, 13 bullets, 21 bullet shells and 5,000 Yaba pills from the spot.
