Draft of pry teachers’ welfare trust law approved

If a teacher of a government primary school in the country dies while working, and has a minor or child with a disability, the government will take responsibility for their children.

With such a provision, final approval has been given to the draft of ‘Government Primary School Teachers Welfare Trust Act-2022’.

The approval was given at a cabinet meeting held in the cabinet room of the Parliament on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and Law Minister Anisul Haque were present during this time, among others.

In a press briefing after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said that according to the new law if the teacher of a primary school dies while working, the government will provide for the education of their minor children. At the same time, his/her family will be given one-time financial assistance.

He said that the trust would have a fund. Some money from the fund will be deposited by the government and some by the teachers themselves.
