Dhaka Power Distribution Company (DPDC) has sought 20 kathas of land in the capital’s green road from Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) for ensuring uninterrupted power supply in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and other important places in the capital.

DPDC issued a letter to the BWDB as well as the ministry concerned for taking necessary approval in this regard.

A DPDC official said “We’ve already sought the allocation of the land and now seek the ministry’s intervention in this regard.”

He said the DPDC will able to construct 132/33/11 kilo-voltage sub-station that will help the main load centre of the power distribution company.

Now, DPDC works to ensure uninterrupted power supply at it’s service areas through 26 33/11KV sub-station and 14 132/33/11 KV sub-stations.

“We’ve a plan to construct a new base centre at the proposed land at Green Road to ensure smooth power supply at Sangsad Bhaban, Ganobhaban, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College, Dhaka Medical College, MP Hostel and other important government offices, “official said.

According to the officials, the DPDC works to implement duel line each of the key point installment and other areas instead of present single lines for ensuing uninterrupted power supply by 2021.

Now, most of the feeders of the distribution company are overloaded and it pushes to ensure uninterrupted power supply with great challenge considering increasing numbers of consumers, DPDC official sources said.

The DPDC requires 1690MW of electricity. Of the electricity, the demand of Shere-Bangla Nagar requires 90MW which faces crisis due to overloaded distribution sub-stations.
