Door-to-door survey for 50,000 new taxpayers in Rangpur zone

The Taxes Zone of Rangpur will launch a door-to-door external and internal survey for identifying 50,000 new taxpayers in all 22 circles of seven districts under it’s jurisdictions during the current 2019-2020 FY, reports BSS.

“Earlier, we conducted only internal survey targeting to identify 25,000 new taxpayers during the 2018-2019 FY when we exceeded the target by issuing e-TIN for 28,149 new taxpayers,” Tax Commissioner for Taxes Zone-Rangpur Md. Abdul Latif said. Latif disclosed the information while talking to BSS today in the sideline of the week-long Income Tax Fairs-2019 being held at the Zila Parishad Community Centre here.

After appointing 48 new employees recently, the number of officers and employees increased up to 124 now in all 22 circles under the Taxes Zone- Rangpur against 203 allocated posts. “Following increase in number of manpower, we have planned to train university students for sending them in teams door-to-door to conduct surveys to identify 50,000 new taxpayers under the leadership of our employees during the current FY,” Latif said.

“We have fixed a target of collecting Taka 851 crore income taxes during the 2019-2120 FY by increasing number of taxpayers and conducting door-to- door survey against Taka 630 crore collected as income taxes during the last 2018-2019 FY in the zone,” he added.
At the same time, Latif called upon all eligible citizens to register their e-TIN numbers at the 22 circles of the zone to spontaneously become taxpayers and pay their income taxes for further strengthening of the national economy.

Latif assured all eligible citizens of getting all necessary assistance to easily register their e-TIN numbers in completely hassle-free manner at any circle under the jurisdiction of Taxes Zone-Rangpur. Answering to a question, Latif expressed satisfaction over huge rush of taxpayers at all 12 income tax fairs being held at the divisional city, six district and five upazila level headquarters under the Taxes Zone-Rangpur for the sixth consecutive day today.

The income tax fairs are being held at Rangpur city, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Panchagarh, Kurigram, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari district headquarters, Syedpur, Pirganj, Badarganj, Bochaganj and Phulbari upazila headquarters under the zone. “Some 22,552 taxpayers already submitted their return forms and paid Taka 8.08 crore as income taxes till Monday at these 12 fairs,” Latif said adding that all of these income tax fairs are remaining overcrowded with huge rush of the enthusiastic taxpayers.

Besides, 47,895 taxpayers have received various services and suggestions from income tax officials and 845 new tax payers registered their new e-TIN numbers in the last five days till Monday at these income tax fairs, Latif added. Talking to BSS at the income tax fair in Rangpur city today, taxpayers Abdur Rahman, Aleya Begum, Khondker Mesbahul Islam, Julekha Khatun and Mahbubur Rahman thanked income tax officials for extending cooperation in easily paying income taxes. 

Taxpayers Ruhul Amin, Kamrul Islam and Nurun Nahar expressed their gratitude to the income tax officials for assisting in calculating income taxes and filling out income tax return forms at the stalls set up on fair premises in hassle-free manner. Moniruzzaman said there are 1.92-lakh taxpayers in the zone as per statistics on June 30 this year and the number is expected to further increase during the current 2019-2020 FY.
