Students need to be involved in sports and other cultural activities in addition to doing well in their studies. The 'DNCC Mayor's Scholarship' will be given to those meritorious students who excel in their studies and extra-curricular activities.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam made the comment while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of 'Bangabandhu Corner and Library' at Banani Model School on Tuesday.
The mayor said, "We have to educate our children in a productive way. We have to respect the elders and cherish the younger ones as per the words of our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
At the same time, he said that students must be educated to keep their environment and country clean. One should be aware of cleanliness as well as study.
He reminded the students of the sacrifices made by the language martyrs in 1952 Language Movement and announced the construction of a Shaheed Minar at Banani Model School ground.
Mr Atiq said, "It is very important to set up Bangabandhu Corner in schools. Through this, students will be able to learn the history and ideology of Bangabandhu. We have to cherish the history and ideology of Bangabandhu because it is due to his efforts we are now an independent Bangladesh. It is because of him we can freely wave green flag here."
At the end of the speech, the DNCC Mayor cut a cake along with the teachers and students on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth anniversary and inaugurated the Bangabandhu Corner and Library built in the school.
The mayor along with the students conducted cleaning activities of Banani Model School ground to motivate the students about cleanliness.
Mir Mosharraf Hossain, President of School Management Board and General Secretary of Banani Thana Awami League presided over the function.
