Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner (DMP) Khandkar Golam Farooq said DMP will provide security for the much talked about metro rail till creation of the specialized MRT Police unit.
He made the remark at Diabari metrorail main depot in city’s Uttara area after inspecting the overall security measures.
The DMP commissioner said, “The metro rail is very important project for public interest. DMP sent a proposal to form a separate specialized unit for providing overall security of metro rail. We are waiting for the government’s approval in this regard. Until then, we shall will provide security to the metro rail at our own arrangement.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the much awaited metro rail project today (Wednesday).
The DMP Commissioner also said, “A new horizon is being opened to move from one place to another by avoiding the traffic jam in the capital Dhaka. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the metro rail project tomorrow. She will also participate in a public meeting at the venue site. For this reason, comprehensive security measures have been taken in this area.”
He added, “In the inauguration ceremony, many VIPs will also attend. A comprehensive security measures has been taken to ensure their safety and smooth movement.”
