Dhaka to host ‘WCIT 2021’ next month

The 25th edition of the World Congress on Information Technology, the World Conference on Information and Communication Technology, is going to be held in Bangladesh on November 11-14 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center.

The Asia-Oceania International Conference Association 'Digital Summit 2021' will be held at the same time in parallel with the 'WCIT 2021' conference. The programs will be held in a combination of physical and virtual methods.

The conference is being jointly organized by the Department of Information and Communication Technology, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) and Bangladesh Computer Society at the initiative of The World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA). BASIS, BACCO, E-CAB and ISPAB are the partners of this event.

The theme of this year's World Conference is ‘ICT the Great Equalizer’.

The Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology said this while joining the ‘Meet the Press’ program held at Pan-Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital on Tuesday.

He further said that the 4-day conference will have a total of 23 seminars, ministerial conferences and B2B sessions. Interested people can participate in these seminars by registering online.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the Prime Minister's Adviser on ICT, will be the virtual speaker at the November 11 ministerial conference.

There are special events besides seminars every day. The first day of this special event will be ‘Digital Bangladesh Night’. Digital Bangladesh Night will showcase Bangladesh's progress in information technology over the past 12 years.

On November 12, the birth centenary celebrations of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will present Bangabandhu's initiatives aimed at advancing the country in independent sovereign state and information technology. 

On this day, various individuals and organizations in the Asia-Oceania region will be honored for their special contribution in information technology at the ‘Associate 

Award Night’.

Palak said that, “We are going to organize the famous Olympic of Technology "WCIT 2021". I am using ICT as a powerful tool to eliminate inequalities in education, health, agriculture, trade, administrative activities and judiciary and to transform Bangladesh from a labor-intensive economy to a technology and talent-driven digital economy. In the last 12 years, due to the development of proper infrastructure in the ICT sector, it has been possible to keep everything moving by using technology even in the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Senior Secretary of the ICT Department NM Ziaul Alam, Executive Director of the Bangladesh Computer Council Md. Abdul Mannan, BCS President Md. Shahid-ul-Munir,  Secretary General of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance James H. Poissant also spoke at the event.
