The Awami League candidate for Dhaka-10 parliamentary by-elections, Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, could not cast his own vote through the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as his fingerprint did not match.
He went to Lake Circus Girls High School Centre in Kalabagan to cast his vote at 9:50 am on Saturday, but he could not cast vote despite several efforts for over 30 minutes.
The ballot unit could not be opened using his fingerprint as it did not match the information stored in the voter server.
Later, his name was found in the voter list. So, the AL candidate came out of the polling station without casting his vote.
An EC official said Shafiul Alam was registered as a voter in the city’s Uttara area. Few days before the announcement of the election schedule he applied for shifting his voting address.
“But the voter list of each polling station was finalised earlier. So, his name might have not incorporated in the list,” the official said.
Amid the fear of novel coronavirus infection, by-elections to three parliamentary constituencies-- Dhaka-10, Gaibandha-3 and Bagerhat-4--were held on Saturday with the participation of the lowest ever voters.
