The decision to repeal the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance-2025 will be finalised once Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus returns from Japan, said Senior Secretary of the Land Ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed on Wednesday.
“Once the Chief Adviser is back home, the Cabinet Secretary will place the issue before him,” said Saleh Ahmed while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
“We have informed the Cabinet Secretary about the employees’ demands and a discussion was held on Tuesday over the issue. But, the Cabinet Secretary cannot make a decision on this matter himself. He will present it to the Chief Adviser,” he said.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus left for Japan late Tuesday night and is scheduled to return home on May 31, the secretary added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Secretariat employees who have been demanding the repeal of the Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 suspended their Wednesday’s protest following a meeting with three secretaries.
After the meeting held at the Ministry of Land on Tuesday afternoon, Saleh Ahmed told reporters that discussions were held with the protesting employees but there has been no concrete decision yet.
Earlier, government employees staged demonstrations near the Secretariat for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance.
Due to the ongoing agitation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police restricted the entry of visitors to the Secretariat on Tuesday.
Security was tightened at all gates allowing only journalists to enter the secretariat in the afternoon.
