A decision on inoculating school children to prevent coronavirus infection will be taken today, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam said this on Wednesday.
"There will be a meeting of high officials of the government on Thursday (today). It will decide whether the school children will be vaccinated against coronavirus," he said.
He said Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina wants to vaccinate school children. However, no instruction from the World Health Organization has been received in this regard.
Vaccination of teachers is almost over. University students have also been vaccinated.
The DG said, "Students in schools and colleges in the United States are being provided with Pfizer vaccine under their own management. The same can happen in our country. The PM wants and if the authorities think so, they can open the school-college after the vaccination."
He further said schools and colleges in the country have been closed for a long time and the studies have been hampered. It would be very good if those who have been suffering from various problems at home for a long time can be brought back to school-college after vaccination, he added.
