Deaths cross 4000-mark

Deaths due to Covid-19 pandemic crossed 4000-mark in Bangladesh on Tuesday, five months after the first fatality on March 18.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) recorded 2,545 new patients and 45 deaths in the last 24 hours.

With that, the number of total cases rose to 299,628 and deaths 4,028.

The Covid-19 deaths crossed the 1,000 mark on June 10 in Bangladesh within three months of the first fatality. The next 1,000 crossed within a month on July 5.

On July 28, the deaths crossed 3,000-mark, according to the government tally.

The death rate stood at 1.34 percent.

In the last 24 hours, 3,881 patients recovered from the disease, raising the total recovery count to 186,756. The recovery rate rose to 62.33 percent.

 Some 14,153 samples were tested in 91 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. Among the latest victims, 32 were men and 13 women.

 Of them, 25 were from Dhaka division, nine from Chattogram, four from Khulna, and two each from Rajshahi, Barishal and Mymensingh and one from Rangpur.

 Bangladesh confirmed the first Covid-19 cases on March 8. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11. So far 1,470,191 samples have been tested to identify the cases.
