Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has said that Dhaka North and South City Corporations’ polls were held in a free, fair and peaceful manner. However the CEC said the voter turnout was not more than 30 percent. “We did not get any major complaint regarding irregularities with the polls. The elections were held in free, fair and good manner,” the CEC told reporters office at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city’s Agargaon area following the completion of voting on Saturday.

“Elections to Dhaka North and South City Corporations were free and fair. The turnout was low but the polls were held in a peaceful manner,” he added. The Election Commission did not get any complaint about forcibly driving out of polling agents from the voting centres.

“I saw polling agents from both Awami Leauge and BNP where I cast vote. If any agent was forcibly driven out of the stations, he/she must have submitted complaint before the commission,” he added. About EVM, the CEC said none can oppose about EVM during the polls as the commission observed the whole elections through television.

“Some voters said the method is little difficult. But most of the voters were comfortable with this method. Through EVM, none can cast vote of others,” he added. In response to a query regarding the clash between AL and BNP in Paltan, the CEC said that is a matter of investigation as the commission can’t see matters sitting inside the Commission at Agargaon.
