DB arrests 7 cons for forging certificates

Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Friday arrested seven members of fraudulent group from different parts of the capital Dhaka for their connection with making fake educational certificates.

The detainees are- Noor Rimty, Abed Ali, Jamal Hossain, AKM Mostafa Kamal, Maruf, Faruk Ahmed Swapan and Mahbub Alam.

AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner (DB) of DMP at a press briefing at DMP Media Centre disclosed it on Saturday.

Among the arrestees, Maruf is an official of the education board.

According to the DB chief, victim Nur Tabassum Sultana passed JSC and SSC from the Dhanmondi Kamrunnesa Govt Girls High School in the capital Dhaka. She found out that her certificates were illegally changed when she went to register for the HSC examination.

According to her mother Rokeya Sultana, they came to know about the forgery after getting a text SMS on August 21 for HSC registration.

Tabassum Sultana told that she saw her name and parents’ name were changed when she checked on the education board's website. She saw all her information was mysteriously changed.

Rokeya Sultana told that they filed a case with Dhanmondi Police Station under Digital Security Act in this connection.

According to preliminary investigation, accused Noor Rimty took part in the SSC examination in 2019. But she could not pass.

She required an SSC certificate to go to Italy. She explained it to her uncle Jamal Hossain. Later, he contacted AKM Mostafa Kamal for making a fake certificate in exchange of TK 3.5 lakh.

Mostafa Kamal then contacted Maruf and brokers Mahbub Alam, Faruk Ahmed, and Abed Ali.

They collected all information about Nur Tabassum . Later they applied it to the education board to change her details.

The unscrupulous racket then changed the name of Nur Tabassum to Noor Rimty on the JSC, SSC certificates, and other necessary information on the website.  

DB officials will investigate whether any higher official of the Dhaka Education Board is involved with the matter.
