Daily Covid deaths drop to 21

Bangladesh registered 21 more deaths from Covid-19 till 8am Friday. The total number of deaths has reached to 27,531 with the latest figure.

The country recorded 847 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to 1,556,758, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

The death rate now stands at 1.77 percent in the country, added the release. 

The positivity rate has been below five percent for the eleventh day in a row. Covid-19 situation is considered under control if the infection rate remains below five percent for two consecutive weeks.

The current positivity rate stands at 3.43 percent and the overall positivity rate stands at 15.96 percent. 

Among the 21 deceased, 12 were men, and nine were women. Nine of the deceased were from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, four from Khulna and one each from Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal. 

A total of 24,670 samples were tested across the country till 8am Friday. 

During this period 960 Covid-19 patients have recovered. Up until now, a total of 1,516,901 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.44 percent.  

As of Friday 4,800,323 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 234,699,330 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
