Ctg key destination for Japanese investment

Experts tell B2B meeting of Ctg Chamber, JETRO, JCIAD

A business to business meeting between The Chittagong  Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Commerce and Industry Association in Dhaka (JCIAD) was held at Bangabandhu Conference Hall, World Trade Center on Wednesday.

Chamber President Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting while JETRO's Dhaka Country Representative Yuji Ando, Chamber Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanveer, JCIAD and JBCCI President Myungho Lee, Chamber Ex-President Engineer Ali Ahmed, Ex-Senior Vice-President Omar Hajjaz., Chamber Directors Md. Ahid Siraj Chowdhury (Swapan), Anjan Shekhar Das, Benazir Chowdhury Nishan, were present among others

Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said that after independence, Japan extended technical and financial support to Bangladesh in education, health, energy and logistics sectors, including infrastructure development, which will play a significant role in building a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

He said that Bangladesh has now become one of the investment destinations of Japanese businessmen.  Besides, Chittagong businessmen are interested in joint and partnership basis with Japan. 

In view of this, the Chittagong Chamber has established a Japan Desk with JETRO and JBCCI to enhance trade relations between the two countries.

Yuji Ando, Country Representative of Bangladesh JETRO, said that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's recent visit to Japan was very fruitful.  As a result, Japan is now one of Bangladesh's strategic partners.  

Japan is building a deep sea port at Matarbari as part of the Free and Indo Pacific which will turn Bangladesh into an economic hub.  As a result, Bangladesh will become the gateway of South Asia.

He said that Japanese businessmen first invested in Chittagong.  Chittagong is still preferred by Japanese businessmen for investment.  Therefore, the businessmen of Japan Commerce and Industry Association have come to Chittagong as part of investment expansion in Chittagong.
