The century-old business body, the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), has finalized its new leadership following its biennial election, with new office-bearers elected to the chamber’s top three positions.
Mohammad Amirul Haque has been elected President, while Amzad Hossain Chowdhury and Mashiul Alam Swapan have been elected Senior Vice-President and Vice-President respectively.
The decision was finalized at a meeting of the newly elected directors held in line with the majority opinion of the United Business Forum panel. The meeting was chaired by the panel’s chief adviser and former CCCI president Amir Humaun Chowdhury.
The biennial election of the chamber was held on May 23 after a long 13-year gap. Directors were elected from Town Association & Trade Group, Ordinary and Associate categories. The United Business Forum panel secured a majority of the seats in the election.
This election, the President, Senior Vice-President, and Vice-President was formally selected and assigned responsibilities on Monday at the World Trade Center in Agrabad of Chattogram.
SEACOM Group's Chairman Mohammad Amirul Haque was elected unopposed as a director from the Town Association & Trade Group category.
BNP leader Aslam Chowdhury's younger brother and Rising Group's Managing Director Amzad Hossain Chowdhury was elected from the Ordinary category.
Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association's vice-chairman Mashiul Alam Swapan was elected from the Associate category.
Business leaders expressed hope that the new leadership will further strengthen the chamber’s activities and contribute to the expansion of trade and commerce in Chattogram.
