Covid claims 2 more lives in a day

Bangladesh registered two more deaths from Covid-19 in 24 hours till 8am Tuesday. This takes the total number of deaths to 27,928. The current positivity rate stands at 1.03pc.

Although the daily deaths have seen minor fluctuations, the overall number of cases remains significantly low.

According to experts, the Covid-19 situation in a country can be claimed to be under control if the infection rate remains under 5pc for two weeks. Bangladesh has successfully achieved that feat over a month ago. The country recorded 213 new infections in the meantime taking the total number of people infected to1, 572,948, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

The death rate now stands at 1.78 pc in the country, as per the press release. Around 20,764 samples were tested during this time.

The two deceased were women and they were between 51-60 years old, added the release.

Around 223 people recovered from the virus during the time. Up until now, a total of 1,536,967 people have recovered from the virus and the recovery rate stands at 97.71 pc. 

As of Tuesday, 5,125,828 people died of Covid-19 across the world and 254,751,205 have been infected so far, according to Worldometer.
