Covid-19 positivity rate jumps to 39.72pc in Rangpur region

The daily Covid-19 positivity rate jumped to 39.72 percent as 112 fresh cases were detected after conducting real-time PCR tests out of 282 new samples at two Covid- 19 laboratories in Rangpur on Tuesday.

  Health officials here said the pandemic situation has been deteriorating rapidly amid a sharply rising trend in the number of Covid-19 cases everyday during the last two weeks in the division.  

  Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 35.80 percent on Monday, 43.57 percent on Sunday, 36.59 percent on Saturday, 22.60 percent on Friday, 28.92 percent on Thursday and 16.31 percent on Wednesday last in the division.

  Among the 112 new patients, 37 were reported positive after testing 94 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at the 39.36 percent positivity rate today.

  "The 37 new patients include 27 from Rangpur, four from Gaibandha, three from Lalmonirhat, two from Kurigram and one from Dinajpur districts," said Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. Bimal Chandra Roy.

  On the other hand, 75 new patients were detected positive after testing 188 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the 39.36 percent positivity rate today. "The 75 new patients include 67 from Dinajpur, four from Nilphamari, one from Panchagarh and three from Thakurgaon districts," said Principal of MARMC Prof. Dr Syed Nazir Hossain.    Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Abu Md. Zakirul Islam told BSS that the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 57,288 as 112 new positive cases were reported today across the division.

  The district-wise break up of total 57,288 patients include 12,944 of Rangpur, 3,914 Panchagarh, 4,604 of Nilphamari, 2,830 of Lalmonirhat, 4,691 of Kurigram, 7,861 of Thakurgaon, 15,467 of Dinajpur and 4,977 of Gaibandha in the division.
