A Dhaka court on Tuesday set January 28 for submitting probe report in a case lodged over rape of a Dhaka University (DU) student in city’s Kurmitola area on Sunday last, reports BSS.
Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara passed the order after taking first information report (FIR) into cognizance. Earlier, a student of Dhaka University (DU) was allegedly raped in the city’s Kurmitola area while she was going to her friend’s resident after dusk on Sunday. Father of the victim filed a case with Cantonment police station on Monday.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gulshan Division) Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty on Tuesday said that police have collected a CCTV footage of Kurmitola Golf Club gate and it is being scrutinised. “We’ve got the closed circuit television (CCTV) footage of the main gate of Kurmitola Golf Club which is being scrutinised.” he said while talking to newsmen yesterday over investigation into the rape of a Dhaka University student at Kurmitola on Sunday.
Besides, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwari said the police are investigating the rape incident with due importance and they are putting in their best efforts. The IGP came up with the remark while talking to reporters at Rajarbagh Police Lines here on Tuesday. Earlier on Sunday night, a female student of the university was raped by an unidentified man at Kurmitola in the city.
Following the incident, DU students blocked Shahbagh intersection for two hours on Monday and gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the authorities for arresting those involved in the rape. They continued protests on Tuesday, too.
