A Dhaka court on Monday allowed police to interrogate BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury at the jail gate in a case filed at Paltan police station for sabotage.

According to the court sources, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury’s court rejected their bail plea.

The same court also rejected police’s remand petition seeking 10 days to question the BNP secretary general and standing committee member, allowing police to interrogate at the jail gate.

Earlier, police brought Fakhrul and Khasru to the court from jail at around 1pm and kept them inside its lockup.

Following a rally of the BNP on October 28, detectives picked up BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir from his home in Gulshan at night. Law enforcement officially arrested him around nine hours later.

Afterwards, a Dhaka court rejected his bail petition and ordered him to be sent to jail in a case filed over an attack on the chief justice's home allegedly by BNP activists. The BNP leader has been in jail since then.

Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police detained Khasru at his residence in Gulshan in the early hours of November 3.

Later that day, a court in Dhaka granted the police six days to question him in custody in a case filed over the killing of Constable Amirul Islam Parvez. He was sent to jail after the end of the remand period.

Both the BNP leaders are facing multiple cases filed on different charges.
