Condolences are pouring in for Zainul Haque Sikder, the chairman of Sikder Group of Companies and National Bank Limited, who passed away on Wednesday.
Cabinet members, state ministers, deputy ministers, city mayors, members of parliament, business leaders and dignitaries in different fields were among those who sent condolence messages.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of renowned businessman and valiant freedom fighter Zainul Haque Sikder.
In a condolence message Obaidul Quader prayed for salvation of the departed soul of Zainul Haque Sikder and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of valiant freedom fighter and the country’s leading industrialist Zainul Haque Sikder.
In a condolence message, Mustafa Kamal prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Haque in a condolence message said, “As a successful entrepreneur, Zainul Haque Sikder has made a huge contribution to the health sector of the country by setting up private medical colleges and hospitals. Besides, he has made special contributions to social service setting up various institutions in the private sector. His death created a void in the country's private sector”.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira said, “The country has lost a valiant freedom fighter, renowned social activist and an educationalist who has contributed to build a war-ravaged country”.
Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan in a condolence massage prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and said, “The contribution of Zainul Haque Sikder to the country by participating in the War of Independence as well as building the war-ravaged country as leading industrialist will always be remembered”.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has expressed his deepest condolence for the death of eminent businessman and valiant freedom fighter Zainul Haque Sikder, also the Chairman of National Bank Limited and Sikder Group.
In his message Tipu Munshi said, “Zainul Haque Sikder was an active participant in the War of Liberation in 1971. The people of our country will remember him forever for his immense contribution to the economy of the country.”
State Minister for Cultural Affairs K M Khalid MP has expressed his deep sorrow and shock at the death of the country’s leading industrialist and valiant freedom fighter Zainul Haque Sikder. In a message he said that, “The people of Bangladesh will forever remember him for his gigantic contribution to the economy of the country as well as the War of Liberation”.
“As a successful industrial entrepreneur, heroic freedom fighter Zainul Haque Sikder has played an important role in the economy of the country. He will be remembered for his special contribution to social service including the establishment of educational institutions ”, said Environment, Forests and Climate Change Minister Md. Shahab Uddin.
“Zainul Haque Sikder was a valiant freedom fighter. His contribution to the country's economy and his efforts in social services will always be remembered,” food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder said.
Minister of Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman said, “The contribution of Zainul Haque Sikder for the country by participating in Freedom War, fulfilling his role as an industrialist entrepreneur and conducting social service will always be remembered”.
Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Md Atiqul Islam in a condolence message said, “Valiant freedom fighter and prominent businessman Zainul Haque Sikder took an active part in the great War of Liberation. As a successful industrial entrepreneur, he made significant contributions to the country’s economy. He also made a special contribution to social service. ZainulHaqueSikder will be remembered for long”.
Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh expressing deep grief over the death of Zainul Haque Sikder said, “He was not only a patriotic freedom fighter, he was also a humanitarian industrial entrepreneur. He was the first in the country to introduce specialized medical services like cardiology at the private level”.
DSCC Mayor further said that, “He also opened the door of higher medical education for women by establishing the country's first women's medical university college in Dhanmondi. The path of the first private bank of Bangladesh - National Bank - started in his hand. In this way, he has been able to accelerate the wheel of economic progress and development of the country as well as establish himself as a humanitarian industrial entrepreneur. He is the pioneer of many such 'firsts'”.
