The government is determined to complete development projects in time and warned that stringent actions would be taken against those who would be found responsible for delay in the progress of those projects.
Recently, a letter has been sent to all the ministries and departments from the project branch of the cabinet department highlighting the directives of the premier.
The letter titled “Prime Minister directives regarding the implementation of government projects” states that, if development projects are not completed on time, the country and its people are deprived of the benefits of these projects and in many cases expenditure of the projects goes up.
Hence, the government feels there is a need for intensive supervision and monitoring by formulating action plans and financial plans on these issues from the beginning of the year.
The letter has also advised the ministries concerned to review or look after the progress of the projects. And if the project progress is not found satisfactory then to take action against the responsible officials.
Earlier, a monitoring committee has been formed and a work plan taken to expedite work on the mega projects. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself is the head of the committee and the progress of the ongoing mega projects is being monitored under the personal supervision of the premier.
Earlier, in a meeting in June, last year the Prime Minister had made it clear that no corruption, irregularities, or delays will be tolerated on the work of these projects. She warned that those who commit corruption will not be spared.
Economic analysts said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is taking master plan one after another to take the country to the brink of development. Once these projects are completed, the country's economy will accelerate. Along with employment, economic growth will also increase.
According to PMO, the Projects Monitoring Committee holds meetings at every three-month to review mega project implementation and work progress.
Officials from the Prime Minister's Office, secretaries of the ministries concerned, and project directors attend it. The Prime Minister herself closely monitored the progress of the project.
