Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Monday said that an investigation committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs is looking into whether the frequent incidents of fire are political sabotage.
The home boss said that the nine-member investigation committee headed by Md Saiful Islam, additional secretary of the Security Services Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs, will submit its report soon.
The minister further said the probe committee is getting information about the involvement of people of a particular political party.
However, the minister did not mention any specific political party's name.
Two days after the incident of Bangabazar fire in the capital, the Ministry of Home Affairs convened Md Saiful Islam and formed the nine-member investigation committee. The same committee will investigate subsequent and earlier fire incidents.
The investigation committee will find out the source and cause of the fire, identify those involved in the unintended attack on the head office of the fire service and civil defence department and its staff while extinguishing fire. At the same time, the committee will formulate recommendations to prevent such fire accidents.
Meanwhile, Fire Service and Civil Defence Department also formed a five-member committee to investigate into the cause of fire at Dhaka New Super Market in the city.
Talking to the Bangladesh Post, FSCD duty officer Rozina Akhter confirmed it.
The authority has already directed the committee to find out the cause of fire and amount of damage as well as a list of victims within three days.
She said, Director of the department Wahidul Islam was made the chief of the committee where Deputy Assistant Director Faisalur Rahman is the member secretary, she added.
