Chittagong Int’l Trade Fair begins Thursday

The 30th Chittagong International Trade Fair begins on Thursday at the city's Railway Polo Grounds.  The ticket price for entry to the fair is fixed at Tk 20.  Free tickets are provided for seven class students from various school plays.  The month-long fair will run from 10 am to 10 pm daily.  Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud will inaugurate the fair.

Chamber president Mahbubul Alam gave this information in a press conference at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall of Agrabad's World Trade Center on Tuesday.

 He said, to keep pace with the world, knowledge-based society, knowledge-based businessmen should be developed.  For this purpose, diversity is being brought to this fair.

 He said, participating in this fair, many companies including N Mohammed Plastics, BRB Cables, HATIL are now exporting all over the world.  We have given letter for 10 acres.  It will become its own venue for the fair.  20 lakh buyers and visitors gathered for the fair.

Chairman of the fair and director of the chamber AKM Akhtar Hossain, Ahid Siraj Chowdhury Swapan, Anjan Shekhar Das were present in the press conference.

 According to the written statement, as a part of social responsibility, one free stall has been allotted to Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, Sandani, RAD (Right Action for Disability), Deaf Sports and Social Welfare Organization and Electrician Welfare Society.

 An information booth or information center will be open round-the-clock for the convenience of visitors to the fair.  In order to ensure the safety of life and property of the participants and visitors to the fair, the police force will be divided into three shifts and perform round-the-clock duty in the fair premises.  Besides, the members of the intelligence agencies will also specially monitor the security activities.  Well-trained private security personnel will be engaged in 24-hour security on the fair premises.  As part of the special security measures, the entire situation of the fair will be monitored through CCTV cameras round the clock.  A team of fire service along with vehicles will be stationed at the fair premises at all times during the fair to ensure immediate fire extinguishing system to deal with accidents.  A large area mosque is arranged for men in the north-west corner of the fairgrounds and separate namaz for women in the south-east corner.

 As a new addition, the entertainment center has been set up on the south side of the ground for children's entertainment.  Fair is not only a place of trade but also an opportunity to connect with each other in city life.  Hence an open plaza of 12,320 square feet with fountains along with seating facilities has been laid.  During the fair, ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries will visit the fair.  This will create an opportunity to expand the market of our products in those countries.

 Ministers of various ministries and high ranking government officials will visit the fair which will help in determining the necessary policies for the development of domestic industries.

 For the convenience of the visitors to the fair, fully renovated and expanded separate toilets for men and women have been arranged.  The 1st, 2nd and 3rd stalls, pavilions and producers of indigenous products will be awarded special medals and certificates from among the institutions participating in the fair.

 More than three hundred organizations are participating in the fair with 20 premier pavilions, 56 premier stalls, 14 gold stalls, 48 mega stalls, 11 food stalls, 400 stalls with 3 separate zones.  Other countries participating in this fair with their own products such as India, Thailand and Iran will display their products through various stalls.
