Chine to invest $33m in agriculture

The Chinese government wants to invest $ 33 million in the country’s agriculture sector.

Zheng Tianzhuo, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, has shown his country’s keen interest while paying a courtesy call to Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzak at his secretariat office on Thursday noon. Zheng Tianzhuo was leading a delegation during the courtesy call. Among others, in the delegation there were, Zheng Tianzhuo,   Director of the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy, HuZhiying, Attache of the Political Section.      

Zheng Tianzhuo told the agriculture minister that his government always stands beside Bangladesh for developing different sectors including the agriculture sector. 

“A state owned Chinese company wants to invest $ 33 million in agriculture. We want to setup three agri-processing industries in Bangladesh. And China will import agro-based products from Bangladesh,” the Chinese Ambassador said. 

The ambassador also said, beside agriculture, China is also one of the major friend of Bangladesh. The Chinese government is interest to build stronger relation with the country in the coming days. 

Chine is helping in constructing country’s economic zones, infrastructure development, electrification, communications and other mega projects of the country- he further added. 

Agriculture minister Abdur Razzak thanking the ambassador said, with the development of the agriculture, the government is promised to ensure quality of foods and nutrition and it will be a developed country before 2041. 

‘The government is working to make agriculture sector profitable by creating agri-processing goods and also adding value’ he added. 

After the meeting, the minister also brief journalists, he said, the government is working deeply with the paddy price. ‘How the situation can overcome, what type of short and long term planning is necessary- the government is trying to sort out’.
