Bangladesh's progress is unique, an example of inspiration for other countries in Asia, said Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen on Thursday.

He commented that China wants to be a reliable partner in the progress of Bangladesh.

The Chinese Ambassador made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam.

At the beginning of the meeting, Yao Wen praised Bangladesh’s economic development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Md Tajul Islam recalled his visit to China's Shenzhen in the 1990s and said that the evidence of China’s infrastructure, capabilities and technological excellence could be perceived then.

Currently, China is the second economic power in the world, he said, adding that, as an Asian country, this achievement is a matter of pride for all of us.

The Chinese ambassador welcomed Bangladesh’s decision to join BRICS and said that it will strengthen China’s bilateral relations with Bangladesh.

China’s current GDP is $19.37 trillion, he said, adding that both countries can work for mutual benefit and improvement of people’s living standards.

China always respects the way Sheikh Hasina is taking her country forward in the fight against hegemony.

Mentioning the issue of Chinese financing in the Dasherkandi sewage treatment plant project, the Ambassador said that the implementation of this project is contributing to the improvement of the quality of life of the people adjacent to the project along with the protection of the environment.

If Bangladesh proposes the project, China wants to further increase the engagement between the two countries, he mentioned.

Md Tajul Islam thanked the Chinese for cooperation in generating electricity from waste.

Referring to this project as an example of ideal waste management, he said, this project will open a new horizon in Bangladesh in terms of disposal of waste generated as a result of increasing urbanization.

At the end of the discussion, Md Tajul Islam and Yao Wen exchanged souvenirs from their respective countries.
