Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Li Jiming on Tuesday said that they would help if Bangladesh wants to bring back the rest of students from the Wuhan city, the epicenter of coronavirus infection. He also thanked Bangladesh government for it support to China during this crisis time. The ambassador was receiving a donation of medical accessories from Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, and Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Tuesday at the state guesthouse Padma.

Bangladesh donated 1 million hand gloves, 500,000 face mask, 150,000 caps, 100,000 hand sanitizers, 50,000 shoe covers, and 8,000 gowns to China which is grappling to fight off the infection. The virus, originated from the city of Wuhan where around 500 Bangladeshi were living, was later declared as global public health emergency.

Some 312 Bangladeshi returned voluntarily in a chartered aircraft arranged by the government. Later the government said they would not arrange any special flight, but would facilitate if anyone wants to come back. There are reports that 112 students want to come back.

The foreign minister said the Chinese government is taking care of them properly. The ambassador hoped that there would be no need of their return. “But if Bangladesh government decides to bring them back, the embassy will do whatever we can,” he said.

He also thanked the Prime Minister for the donation as said those would be shipped to China as soon as possible. “We’ll send those to Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus,” he said. Bangladesh is so far coronavirus free and the health authorities said they are well-prepared to manage any situation with trained manpower and logistics. Despite that, China is giving 500 testing kits for coronavirus.
