World Diabetes Day was observed at Evercare Hospital, the largest hospital in the port city.

On Wednesday, Health Talks and a Patient Forum were organized on the occasion. The main objective of the event was to raise awareness about diabetes prevention, timely detection, nutritional management, and long-term treatment.

Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir, Director of the Medical Services Department at Evercare Hospital; Dr. Emran Ur Rashid Chowdhury, Attending Consultant of the Endocrinology and Diabetology Department; Dr. Shayla Kabir, Consultant of the Endocrinology and Diabetology Department; and Ahasfi Mohammad, Chief Dietician of the Dietetics and Nutrition Department, spoke at the event. During the program, the speakers answered various questions from journalists, and patients shared their experiences.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Hasan Shahriar Kabir said, “The increasing rate of diabetes in Bangladesh is undoubtedly a concern, but even more worrying is the lack of basic awareness among the public. Awareness about diabetes is created through proper education. Through such an event, we want to help people acquire that education and the necessary skills.”

Dr. Shayla Kabir added, “Advanced treatment, lifestyle changes, and modern therapy play a vital role in controlling diabetes. At the same time, if patients make mental and physical lifestyle adjustments, they can significantly reduce the risk of long-term complications.”

Dr. Emran Ur Rashid Chowdhury said, “Everyone should be aware of the early symptoms, risks, and identification process of diabetes. Early identification and regular monitoring are the cornerstones of diabetes management. Controlling diabetes is not difficult if the patient is aware and receives the right help in time.”

Ahasfi Mohammad conducted a session on nutrition at the event. He said, “Nutrition plays the most important role in controlling diabetes. When patients are aware of their eating habits, they can take control of their health. Therefore, in addition to physical activity and stress management, extra attention should be paid to what to eat and what to avoid.”

This event by Evercare Hospital Chattogram on the occasion of World Diabetes Day has further strengthened the hospital’s commitment to increasing awareness, patient engagement, and long-term diabetes management.
