Chattogram Custom House has marked a significant milestone by collecting a record-breaking revenue of Tk 61,464.72 crore in the fiscal year 2022-23. This impressive achievement showcases a 3.90 percent increase compared to the previous fiscal year's collection of Tk 59,159.83 crore.

Amidst a global economic recession, the remarkable revenue collection by Chattogram Custom House is considered highly positive news for the country's economy. The authorities and businessmen attribute this success to the customs' proactive measures in curbing smuggling, preventing fraud, and combating customs evasion.

Initially, the revenue collection faced a slight setback due to decreased imports of high revenue-generating products like cars, cosmetics, electronics, and luxury goods. However, as car imports surged in May and June, leading up to the budget, revenue collections witnessed a significant boost.

Customs officials estimate that if imports had followed the normal pattern of the fiscal year 2021-22, the revenue collection could have reached Tk 70,000 crore. These figures demonstrate the potential for even higher revenue generation under favorable import conditions.

Analyzing the monthly data from Chattogram Custom House, it is revealed that June recorded the highest revenue for the fiscal year 2022-23, amounting to Tk 6,365.71 crore. Additionally, July witnessed a collection of Tk 4,781.21 crore, August recorded Tk 5,498.48 crore, and September accounted for Tk 5,105.18 crore.

The consistent revenue collection continued throughout the year, with October totaling Tk 4,918.65 crore, November reaching Tk 5,479.56 crore, and December amounting to Tk 4,388.05 crore. January recorded Tk 4,744.61 crore, February accounted for Tk 4,287.79 crore, and March collected Tk 5,052.52 crore. In April, revenue collection reached Tk 4,534.054 crore, followed by a remarkable surge to Tk 6,308.91 crore in May.

The grand total of Tk 61,464.72 crore collected in the financial year 2022-23 showcases a commendable 3.90 percent increase for Chattogram Customs compared to the previous fiscal year.

Expressing his delight, Barrister Md. Badruzzaman Munshi, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Custom House, declared that the fiscal year 2022-23 witnessed the highest revenue collection in the history of Chattogram Custom House. This outstanding accomplishment marks a significant milestone for the institution, highlighting its commitment to efficient revenue management and economic growth
