Gazi Group Chattogram thump Beximco Dhaka by a comprehensive margin of 7 wickets in the second qualifier match of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. It was all down to Chattogram’s accurate bowling and excellent fielding which earned the victory for the port city side.

With this win, Gazi Group Chattogram qualify for the final. They will now lock horns with Gemcon Khulna in the tournament final at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

Bating first, Dhaka batsmen failed to show any kind of resistance in front of Chattogram’s ace pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman and pacer Shoriful Islam. Mustafizur grabbed three wickets and Shoriful scalped two, which restricted Khulna to a mere score of 116 and gave Chattogram a simple total of 117 to chase.

Chasing 117, Gazi Group Chattogram batsman were in control from the very start. In form openers Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar batted sensibly. The pair enjoyed a 44-run partnership for the first wicket stand, before Soumya got run out in the 7th over.

After Soumya’s dismissal, Liton along with skipper Mohammad Mithun took their team towards victory.  The pair enjoyed a 57-run partnership for the second wicket stand. Liton’s 49-ball 40, laced with 4 boundaries solidifies his position as the highest run-getter of the tournament.

Earlier, Mushfiqur Rahim-led Beximco Dhaka chose to bat first. However, that decision proved to be catastrophic as Dhaka batsmen failed miserably with the bat. They failed to get any kind of rhythm going and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, batsmen Yasir Ali and Al Amin played some cameo innings. Yasir Ali and Al Amin with 25, and Mushfiqur Rahim with 24 were the top-scorers for Dhaka.

However, those scores weren’t enough in front of lethal pace attack of Chattogram. Ace pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman and pacer Shoriful Islam’s trickery, swing deception was too much to handle for Dhaka batsmen. As a result, they bundled out to a mere 116.
