Chairman threatens journo for publishing news against UNO

The chairman of Savarupazila parishad threatened a local journalist for allegedly publishing a falsereport related to a news against the UpazilaNirbahi officer (UNO) of Savar. A written complaint was filed with Savar model police station in this regard on Saturday. Maruf Hossain Sarder, Superintendent of Dhaka district police (SP) confirmed the matter to Bangladesh Post on Sunday.

The police officer told Bangladesh Post, “We have received the complaint and we are investigating into the matter. As have also sent the complaint to the technical expert of police and legal action will be taken after getting expert report.” In the meantime, this correspondent could not reach ManjurulAlamRazib, upazila chairman of Savar despite making several attempts to communicate on phone.

The accused journalist is Motiur Rahman, Savar Correspondent of The Daily Jugantor. Earlier a report was published on Friday lastin a national Bangla daily against the UpazilaNirbahi Officer, UNO of Savar for allegedly raising fund forcefully realized from several local upazila parishadchairmen in the name of so-called creating a relief-fund.

Motiur Rahman alleged, "A local Swechhashebak League leader, SayemMollah, called me and asked me to speak with the upazila chairman. Later, the upazila chairman charged me on phone why published the report against the UNO.” Motiur also said that the UP chairman had threatened him saying that he would deal with him later for daring to write against the UNO.
