Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) has eraned a net profit of Tk 225.81 crore in the financial year 2021-22.
The data was revealed in the 45th Annual General Meeting at Patenga Boat Club on Sunday.
State Minister for Shipping and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Bangladesh Shipping Corporation Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury chaired the 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the shareholders.
Directors of the Board of Directors Md. Mostafa Kamal, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Professor M. Shahjahan Meena, Independent Director, BSC Board of Directors, Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman, Independent Director, BSC Board of Directors, Commodore SM Moniruzzaman, Managing Director, Dr. Piyush Dutta, Executive Director (Commercial) and Mohammad Yusuf, Executive Director (Technology) were present.
In the meeting, the State Minister remembered Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangabandhu's wife Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib, four martyred national leaders and 30 lakh martyrs of the Great War of Liberation and sought forgiveness for their souls.
He said that after the death of Bangabandhu, BSC became a dying institution. But, 6 new ships have been added to the fleet of BSC after 27 years due to the concerted efforts of Bangabandhu's worthy daughter Jana Netri Sheikh Hasina and activities are going on with China, Australia and South Korea to procure more new ships.
As a result, BSC is on the way to regain its lost glory.
The State Minister outlined the various development activities undertaken in line with the vision 2021 and vision 2041 of the present government.
BSC Managing Director Commodore SM Moniruzzaman delivered speech highlighting the activities of BSC in the financial year 2021-22 and the audited annual accounts of the same financial year.
He noted that BSC has earned a net profit of Tk 225.81 crore in the financial year 2022-22.
This achievement has been possible with the sincere cooperation of the government and the combined efforts of all, and due to the vision of the present government towards BSC, this state-owned organization under the national flag will be able to earn more profits in the future.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said that besides the capacity of Chattogram port, thousands of crores taka are being invested in the development of Mongla port and the development of the new sea port Payra port. Four new Marine Academies have been established to train skilled seamen; Three more Marine Academies will be established. National Marine Institutes have been established at Barisal and Madaripur.
A National Marine Institute will be established at Kurigram. This will produce a considerable number of sailors. They will play a greater role in earning foreign exchange and make the country's economy more dynamic.
