BRAC Bank organizes ‘DOUR’ to serve humanity

Develops Tk 69 lakhs fund for distressed people

The employees of BRAC Bank organized their annual mini-marathon "BRAC Bank DOUR 2020 – The Marathon for Humanity ".  Beginning its journey in 2011, DOUR is the first marathon initiative by a bank in the country and is unique in the way it serves the society through its fundraising philosophy. 

Planning Minister M. A. Mannan attended the event as chief guest while Ihsanul Karim, Press Secretary to the Prime Minister also attended the programme, held at Hatirjheel Project Area on Friday morning.

Selim R. F. Hussain, Managing Director & CEO; and Chowdhury Akhtar Asif, Deputy Managing Director & CRO; Md. Sabbir Hossain, Deputy Managing Director & COO; M. Masud Rana FCA, Deputy Managing Director & CFO; BRAC Bank Limited, and the employees of BRAC Bank across the country took part in the mini-marathon.  The officials of other private banks, corporate organizations, the media, film celebrities and running enthusiasts also participated in the marathon. 

The marathon started at 0700am in the morning. More than 4,000 employees of BRAC Bank, its subsidiaries and other corporate organizations participated in the marathon that began from the Police Plaza Point of Hatirjheel and ended at the same point covering 5.5 km. The employees raised a fund of Tk. 34.5 lakh, and the bank doubled it to Tk. 69 lakh from its CSR Fund.  

 entire fund was donated to charitable organizations working for social welfare. They are – Sufia Khatun Foundation, Kidney Foundation Sylhet, Society for Welfare of Autistic Children, Kristi, Deepshikha School, Spreeha Bangladesh Foundation, Moyeen Foundation, Changing Diabetes in Children (CDIC) Programme of BIRDEM Hospital and Child and Old Age Care. 

On the noble initiative, Selim R.F. Hussain, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, said: “As a values-based organization belonging to the larger BRAC family, corporate responsibility is embedded in the DNA of the bank. I am encouraged to see the passion and spontaneity in our colleagues to contribute to society. DOUR is an amazing example of employee-driven CSR initiative. 

We will take the annual marathon to a newer level in the coming years. We strongly believe that together we can make a difference in people’s lives." Actor Afzal Hossain, actress Bidya Sinha Mim, singer Tahsan Rahman Khan, model and actress Afsana Ara Bindu also joined the mini-marathon.
