Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has asked the National Press Club authorities to put more emphasis on boosting security to prevent intruders.

He made the instruction while responding to questions from reporters after a programme on the occasion of Police Memorial Day 2021 at the Police Staff College in the capital on Monday.

“Authorities need to be more vigilant to prevent outsiders to ensure the security of the National Press Club. Any kind of chaotic situation can be avoided if it is ensured. You have to ensure the safety of your club and club members,” the minister said.

“Law enforcers don’t usually enter the press club but one or two of them had to deal with the chaos created by the outsiders on Sunday after taking position at the club. As a regular strategy of police, tear shells were fired to bring the situation under control,” he added.

Police personnel handled the situation with enough patience, he said.

It is mentionable that police and intruders both locked into a clash on Sunday in front of the Press Club. Police personnel fired tear shells at the protesters when they attacked the police personnel.
