Hundreds and thousands of sacrificial animals are transported to the capital by various means including trucks trucks. Cattle transported by boats is also a traditional practice preferred by cattle traders due to cheaper costs of transporting the animals. The picture, taken from Postagola Bridge on River Buriganga on Sunday, shows one such boat arriving in the capital from south-western districts.

The river route to transport the sacrificial animals seem to be highly preferred by the traders ahead of this Eid festival as roads in many districts still remain damaged due to the recent devastating floods restraining vehicles from reaching village roads to pick up the animals. Such boats transporting the animals are also preferred as the highways often remain congested. Hundreds of such boats are arriving throughout the day and night near Amin Bazar in Gabtoli where the capital hosts the biggest cattle market where over 100,000 to 300,000 sacrificial animals are sold prior to every Eid-ul-Azha, the second biggest festival celebrated among Muslims all over the world.
