BNP vows to resist vote

It should come under US visa sanction first

Published : 24 Sep 2023 10:01 PM

BNP and Jamaat will have to suffer the consequences of US visa policy. If the USA really meant it, the BNP and its alliance will be put in the sanction list first as these parties and their leaders at several times have threatened to resist the election by any means.

To gain their purpose they have been resorting to violence and anarchy for leaving the country into troubles.

So, visa restriction should be imposed on the individual leaders of BNP or on the party for hindering democracy and resisting free and fair election as well.

Moreover, the BNP, Jamaat and a few other minor parties are also trying to oust the government by resorting to violence, anarchy and other undemocratic ways.

All the political parties across the world have the faith and trust in their government and respect to their constitution and democratic system.

Instead, the BNP and its like-minded parties are always trying to create unrest in the country showing utter disrespect to the Constitution and creating unrest in the name of their so-called one-point demand, Caretaker Government, which is unconstitutional and rejected by the Supreme Court.

It is widely known that as desired by the BNP’s leader in exile, the parties and most of their senior leaders have continuously been threatening to resist the upcoming general elections at all cost.

They, either in their open speeches or in statements, almost every day are threatening to resist the election, the only way of practising democracy.

BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas on Tuesday (September 19) urged the BNP leaders and activists to stay united so that the Awami League government cannot hold the elections.

“People do not want to see Awami League in power anymore. This time people will resist them,” he said while addressing a public rally held in front of Zinzira BNP office on the city’s outskirts Keraniganj.

He said, “Still there is time, dissolve parliament, resign after forming a Caretaker Government.

Mirza Abbas also warned the government and the ruling party leaders as saying, “We will not harm you, if you quit.”

He also asked the BNP leaders and activists to get ready resist polls.

Earlier on September 4, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also vowed to resist the ruling Awami League.

While speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity in the capital, the BNP Secretary General asked the BNP leaders and activists to create resistance against the government.

BNP’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also issued another threat against the government.

“We will surely resist any move to hold any election. We will not sit idle said Ruhul Kabir Rizvi while speaking at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on August 24.

He said, the government will not be allowed to hold any election.

Like Mirza Fakhrul Islam, Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, many other BNP leaders are continuously issuing threats to resist the election obstructing the democratic system.

On the other hand, the ruling Awami League and of its leaders, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina are repeatedly saying that they are committed to holding the next election free and fair. They always show respect to the democratic system and the Constitution of Bangladesh.

As the government is firmly committed to upholding and continuing democracy, this initiative of US in the form of visa restriction is supportive to Bangladesh government and its cause. There is nothing to be worried about as this visa restriction has no connection or relation with the government.

So, it could be said that visa restriction doesn’t go against the government because government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been reiterating that this government shall ensure a free, fair and inclusive election and upholds the principle of democracy. The Awami League government had first enacted law to form election commission alongside giving them complete economic freedom after bringing it out of the purview of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). It is Awami League which introduced transparent ballot boxes and a voter list with photographs to hold a fair election.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that the United States will implement this visa restriction neutrally. She also assured that there is nothing to fear that who gives sanction or not.

Awami League government also doesn’t want any person involved in crime or responsible for undermining the democratic election process in Bangladesh to get shelter of any country.
