After boycotting the recently held 12th parliamentary polls, opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Saturday announced a black flag march programme on the maiden session of the new parliament.
BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy disclosed the programme at a brief rally outside the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters.
The former minister said BNP will organise the black flag march demanding the dissolution of the current parliament.
Their other demands include the unconditional release of party chairperson Khaleda Zia and other leaders and activists.
“We will organize the programme also in protest against the price hike of daily essentials, he added.
BNP leaders and activists gathered in Naya Paltan to participate in BNP's black flag march from Saturday noon. The march started from in front of the BNP central office in Naya Paltan at 2pm, said BNP Organizing Secretary Abdus Salam.
BNP supporters attended the programme in small processions, displaying black flags, banners, and festoons, while actively voicing various anti-government slogans calling for the release of Khaleda Zia.
Additional police have been deployed in Naya Paltan and its vicinity.
Law enforcement personnel, including plainclothes officers, were deployed to ensure security during the programme.
