BNP-Jamaat terrors intensify violence after EC announces poll schedule

Immediately after the announcement of the schedule for the 12th parliamentary elections, BNP supporters have intensified their atrocities in and around the capital Dhaka.

They hurled at least six crude bombs in city’s Kakrail area on Wednesday evening.

 BNP-Jamaat terrors also set fire to four buses in Dhaka’s Mirpur on the night before the BNP-Jamaat’s fifth round of nationwide transport blockade.

BNP-Jamaat cadres torched two Manarat International University buses in Nobaberbagh Uttarpara area of Beribadh dam along the Turag river on Tuesday night.

They also torched another bus of Shuktara Paribahan in Dwipnagar area of the Beribadh around 11pm.

Unruly activists of BNP attacked Awami League supporters and police leaving at least 30 including five police officials on the Bogura-Dhaka highway in Sherpur upazila of the district on Wednesday.

BNP terrors led by  former MP Golam Mohammad Siraj arrived in the Hospital Road area of Khejurtala and carried out the attack, said Babu Kumar Shaha, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station.

The OC said, adding that five police officials sustained injuries as brick chips were thrown at police.

Tarikul Islam Tarek, president of Sherpur upazila Jubo League alleged that the BNP men started throwing brickbats at them from behind while they were going through the area, which led to the clash. At least 20 of leaders AL and activists were admitted to hospital.

Meanwhile, a total of 181 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed across the country including Dhaka on the first day of the fifth phase of the blockade called by the BNP and the Jamaat-e-Islami. 

A large number of BGB members were deployed at various important locations in the capital. 

BGB’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Shariful Islam confirmed the information. 

He said: “33 platoons of BGB were deployed in Dhaka and surrounding districts to strengthen the security of garment factories. Apart from this, 181 platoons of BGB are deployed across the country to control the law and order situation.”

Sixty teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were also deployed in the capital Dhaka.
