BNP, Jamaat continue politics of terror

Transport movement remains normal

The BNP and Jamaat terrors torched at least seven vehicles and vandalised several others on the third day of the countrywide blockade.

However, transport movement was almost normal across the country, our correspondents reported.

In the capital Dhaka, BNP-Jamaat cadres set two buses on fire in Azampur and Mohammadpur areas, police said.

BNP-Jamaat activists torched a bus of Paristhan Paribahan around 7:00am in Azampur of Uttara.

Rafi Al Faruk, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters confirmed it.

Another parked bus of Moumita Paribahan was set on fire by the BNP-Jamaat supporters around 4:40am in the Beribandh area of Mohammadpur.

They also set fire to a private car in the Bakshibazar area at 4:45am. 

The BNP-Jamaat cadres had attempted to blast three crude bombs in Nilkhet area of Dhaka.

The bomb disposal unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) recovered the unexploded crude bombs around 7:50am, Shafiqul Gani Babu, officer-in-charge of New Market police station confirmed. 

The bombs were spotted on a road near Niharika Bhaban around 7:25am, he said, adding that two individuals wearing helmets riding on a motorcycle came to the area, hurled bombs and fled the scene. 

However, the crude bombs wrapped in black scotch tape did not explode then, said the OC. 

Later, they sought help from the bomb disposal unit, which reached the spot around 7:50 and diffused the bombs, he added.  

In Narayanganj, two trucks were torched and several vehicles were vandalised by pro-blockade activists.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police Abir Hossain said a group of BNP men blocked the Asian Highway (Dhaka bypass) in Nalpathar area and set the vehicles on fire.

In Chattogram, BNP-Jamaat terrors torched a bus and vandalised two more in Rangunia upazila.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rangunia Police Station Chandan Kumar Chawkbarty confirmed it.

BNP-Jamaat men vandalised a covered van and a truck loaded with cotton and set it on fire on the Asian Highway in Narayanganj. 

The incident took place in the Kushab area of Rupganj upazila on Thursday morning.

According to police and local sources, 40-50 activists led by the former vice-presidents of the District Chhatra Dal unit, Sultan Mahmud, and Masudur Rahman, stopped a covered van and set it on fire. 

Later, they vandalised another wood-laden truck and set it on fire as well. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) Golam Mostafa Russell said traffic movement was normal on the third day of the blockade. 

Jamaat cadres set a truck carrying sugar on fire at Lalpole in Feni Sadar upazila and vandalised a vehicle of a pharmaceutical company in Fulgazi upazila.

The truck was set on fire on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway around 4 am on Thursday. 

Meanwhile, the Jamaat terrors also attacked vehicle of a pharmaceutical company in Fulgazi, injuring three people, including driver of the vehicle.

Jamaat cadres kept eight crude bombs and six petrol bombs at Kanchipara Khabiria Aleem Madrasa ground in Phulchhari upazila of Gaibandha district for sabotage.
