The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) on Saturday said that they supported the whitening of undisclosed money for investment in the productive sector foe a certain period of time.

FBCCI President MdJashimUddin said this at it’s post-budget  press briefing, held at the federation Bhaban, Matijheel in the capital  on Saturday.

"Our position is clear. The government may allow it for a limited time for productive uses", he said.

The FBCCI chief, however, said allowing it for an indefinite period will discourage genuine taxpayers.

The government is yet to decide whether to continue the facility.

Earlier on Friday, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal at a budget press briefing said the government would take at least a month to decide on the issue.

“There are pros and cons of whitening undisclosed money”, the minister said, adding it is injustice for genuine taxpayers as allowing it creates a money multiplier effect on the economy.

Jashim said the budget is not impractical, it was prepared  as per the demand of people and in implementing the commitment of the government to people.

The main challenges of implementing the budget are good governance, proper monitoring, ensuring revenue management through development of investment and production, ensuring skill, accountability and transparency, he said. He also said the budget has been prepared with the sequence of development of the 8th Five-Year Plan, challenges of LDC Graduation and targets of SDG.
