BGMEA leaders have demanded to start rationing program garment industry workers through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The apex body of the country's garments industry has also sought necessary steps from the district administration in allotment of land for BGMEA School and BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (CBUFT) along with establishment of separate Garment Green Zone at Jungle Salimpur in Sitakunda.
The BGMEA leaders said this to the Deputy Commissioner Mominur Rahman in a discussion meeting held with the leaders of BGMEA at the Chattogram District Commissioner's office recently. Chattogram District Commissioner Mominur Rahman assured the BGMEA leaders to take necessary steps for allotment of land.
BGMEA Vice President Md. Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury were present in the exchange meeting among others.
Mominur Rahman said that despite the global economic crisis, the economic progress of the country continues as a result of the contribution of the garment industry. This industry has kept the national economy running especially during the Corona crisis. For this, he thanked and thanked the BGAA leaders on behalf of the government.
BGMEA First Vice President Syed Nazrul Islam said that the garment industry has turned around due to soft loans and incentives provided by the Prime Minister to deal with the crisis of Covid-19.
Currently, export trade is destabilized due to inflation in the wake of the Russia-Ukraine war and the global economic recession. In this context, the garment industry should be sustained through overall cooperation for the sake of continued export growth and employment.
He said that with the aim of making the small and medium garment industries in Chattogram as fully compliant factories, allotment of independent Garment Green Zone at a convenient place in Salimpur forest of Sitakunda and BGMEA-run school and Chattogram BGMEA University of Fashion in view to providing free education to the children of garment industry and workers.
BGMEA Senior Vice President SM Mannan Kochi said that taking advantage of the current situation in the garment industry, necessary steps should be taken to ensure that no one can create chaos and unrest.
BGMEA Director Md. Khosru Chowdhury, Abdullah Hill Rakib, Harun-or-Rashid, Rajeev Chowdhury, Barrister Bidya Amrit Khan, AM Shafiul Karim Khokon, Md. Hasan Jackie, M Ehsanul Haque were also present on the occasion.
