Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has seized various types of smuggled goods worth around Tk 131.20 crore in last February during raids in border areas and other places of the country.
The seized contraband includes - 1 kg 169.72 grams of gold, 10,878 saris, 4,920 three-piece/shirtpiece/chadar/blanket, 11,642 ready-made garments, 887 meters of than cloth, 4,13,489 cosmetics, 2,464 pieces of imitation jewelry, 18,83,545 fireworks, 3,646 cubic feet of wood, 13,852 kg of tea leaves, 8,474 kg of betel nut, 17,472 kg of coal, 55,260 cubic feet of sand, 195 mobiles, 4,928 pieces of mobile displays, 5,643 glasses, 29,477 kg of cumin, 16,292 kg of sugar, 33,870 kg of onion, 1,204 kg of garlic, 3,556 packets of various seeds, 4,701 kg of fertilizer, 2,392 packets of pesticides, 94,227 pieces of chocolate, 638 cows/buffaloes, 3 stone statues, 8 trucks/covered vans, 7 tractors, 7 pickups, 2 private cars/microbuses, 2 trolleys, 29 CNG/easy bikes, 34 motorcycles and 26 bicycles/vans.
The recovered weapons include - 13 foreign/domestic pistols, 1 rifle, 16 magazines, 160 rounds of ammunition, 16 cocktails, 82 electric detonators, 3 kg of gun powder, 24 other weapons and 5 kg of Indian chemical substances.
Also, a large amount of narcotics was seized by the BGB last month. The seized drugs and narcotics include 17,09,080 pieces of Yaba tablets, 2 kg 268 grams of heroin, 2,199 bottles of Phensedyl, 1 kg 244 grams of crystal meth ice, 6,458 bottles of foreign liquor, 100 liters of Bengali liquor, 1,368 bottles of canned beer, 937 kg 350 grams of marijuana, 1,61,853 packets of bidi cigarettes, 212 kg of bidi making spices, 1,99,054 narcotic tablets/injections, 2,477 bottles of Escafe syrup, 9,361 Anegra/Senegra tablets and 250 grams of cocaine and 3,19,863 pieces of various medicines.
In a BGB operation at the border, 141 smugglers were arrested on charges of involvement in various types of drug trafficking including Yaba and other contraband, and 76 Bangladeshi citizens, 02 Indian citizens and 135 Myanmar citizens were arrested for illegally crossing the border, and legal action has been taken against them.
